Research Interests
March 2020 I have organised an international Exhibition titled English Northernness (insider and outsider views) 1890-1990 as an impact case study for Ref 2021. The project involved the work from 7 national and international photographic collections and collaboration with Bolton Museum. This will be proceeded by a future exhibition and research conference on the future of how English northernness can be interpreted. Funding grants from UoB and Arts Council England.
October 2019 Paper (article approx. 9000 words) submitted to Photography and Culture Journal, titled English Northernness (insider and outsider views) 1890-1990. Awaiting peer review.
July 2019 Paper (article approx. 10000 words) submitted to Photogaphies Journal, title Expanding the Canon of Critical Debate concerning Northern English Documentary Photography through Adaptive Language from Deleuze and Benjamin. Awaiting per review.
September 2018 Exhibition part-curated by me including elements of my work alongside an international display of mixed-media work related to the Bolton School of the Arts at Bolton Museum Art Gallery.
June 2017 Organiser of the first UoB Northern Photography Symposium.
March 2017-April 2019 Impact Case Study supporting a Playwright Mary Cooper From Shore to Shore.
September 2014 Exhibition, Publication and Public Engagement; But Not Forgotten HLF and Arts Council funded exhibition at Leeds City Museum, which was the showpiece of the 2014 commemoration of the First World War. It was created from a research intervention between myself, curator Lucy Moore and writer Mary Cooper, taking the museums collection and presenting imagined narratives, film, poems, photographs and multimedia presentations.
